European Pilgrimage - Malaga, Spain

My partner and I have officially completed our first European adventure - 5 days in Malaga, Spain!
Here are some of the things I’ve observed while I was there:
- The Spanish are mostly very friendly and if you can make an effort to speak a little Spanish - it can go a long way.
- Half the fun was having opportunities to practice Spanish to so many accommodating people.
- The food is probably the most delicious food I’ve ever had in my life.
- The prices are refreshing. A quality lunch can cost around $5 and a quality dinner with fresh salmon, vegetables & wine costs around $8.
- It is not in their culture to give gratuity.
- Complimentary local olives are served with almost every meal without asking for them. And they are amazing!
- The country moves at a slower, more relaxed pace. The stores and restaurants usually close down for a few hours mid-afternoon during siesta. This is a time to go home, eat lunch, rest or nap.
- I feel freer in Spain than in the U.S. I haven’t seen police officers or have been asked to see my I.D. for ordering wine yet. And “off the beaten path” places to explore aren’t as restricted.
- So far, I feel safer in Spain than I do in the U. S.
- The Spanish, English, Swedish and German people I’ve spoken with here are all effected by the current and direct oppression from the U.S. government and expressed sympathy for us Americans.
- Americans have more similarities than differences with “foreigners”. We all just want to enjoy life, be happy, and free, but people seem to be noticeably happier here.
