“There is no matter. Matter exists only as a shadow of the true Reality. That which binds you is not real. That which liberates you was never bound. Do not seek freedom but realize instead that you were never enslaved.” ~ Gospel of Mary (3:8-15)

Such a powerful mystical truth from the Gospel of Miriam of Magdala (her Hebrew name).

Within these photos lies a story of my mini pilgrimage up a mountain to Miriam’s cave and then to the very top of the mountain where a small chapel is located. This has been a sacred site for thousands of pilgrims for thousands of years, even before Miriam made it her home.

Legend says that after the crucifixion, she fled to Southern France where she preached the early mystical teachings of Christianity (before the Church warped them to meet their own agendas). She likely started hidden movements here, such as the Cathars (who were eventually massacred by the Catholic Church). She soon nestled herself in a cave for 30 years until her death where she lived here as a hermit, naked with only her long hair to cover her (likely in naturally formed dreadlocks) and ate no physical food. Seven times per day, the angels would lift her up (to the current chapel on top of the mountain in the photos) for divine nourishment.

Living in a cave is common for many other Catholic saints, yogi masters, and other highly spiritually evolved souls. Spending their days absorbed in deep meditation - aiding to raise the collective consciousness of humanity. The dark, grounding silence of a cave is the perfect environment - where according to biblical, gnostic and yogic texts - to connect with the Holy Spirit which dwells within you.
